Ans. Masturbation or autosexuality or hand practice is the sexual gratification by the self derived from manipulating the genital organs which provide pleasure. Sexual stimulation done by oneself which may or may not terminate in sex ethics orgasm constitutes autosexuality. It is basically a male problem though females are also involved in certain cases. A male rubbing and gliding his foreskin over the glans while a female rubbing her clitoris and inserting her finger and objects in vagina for curiosity and pleasure constitute auto-sexuality. Masturbation is usually accompanied by fantasies which fulfill the presence of sex partner. Autosexuality deploys artificial means though the process somewhat resembles with the natural sexual intercourse. The state of orgasm and ejaculating is normally reached in males while a woman rarely reaches the stage of orgasm by masturbation. Natural masturbation is the manipulation of genital organs of each other by hand as part of homosexuality or heterosexuality. Chain masturbation is the term used where a large number of boys sit in a circle and masturbate each other.

Masturbation is not absolutely abnormal. Initial stages of mutual masturbation are deployed as a part of foreplay for sexual stimulation by a married couple. Autosexuality is sometimes seen among higher animals and is usually present in the primitive stage. Masturbation up to the stage of orgasm and ejaculation casts harmful effects as it is an unnatural act.

Masturbation done in pubertal and prepubertal period leads to undue straining of sex organs and immature spermatic fluid discharge which impedes physical, psychological and sexual development of a boy. Masturbation results in the wastage of spermatic fluid formed by rich matter and vigorous energy, causing a great harm to the self particularly during the developmental period. There is a difference between the natural spermatic fluid flow in sexual intercourse and the unnatural flow in masturbation. In masturbation the penis gets warm without regulation of the local temperature and heat transference in the absence of stiff muscles and vaginal secretions. The penis is not held as firmly as by the vagina particularly at the time of ejaculation which is done in the air during masturbation. Masturbation results in decrease in stimulatory stages of intercourse. The local nerves of the genitalia become stimulated and tense in frequent masturbation. The spermatic fluid resulting in long term premature ejaculation, nocturnal emission, impotency , frigidity and spermatorrhoea. On the other hand the wrong mental mental adjustment to masturbation may even result in retrograde ejaculation and non-ejaculation. The most killing aspect of auto-sexuality is the development of a feeling of guilt after the act of masturbation as it is an unnatural process.
Though virgins confine the insertion to the distal part of vulva so as not to tear the hymen, still it may tear the hymen and dilate the vagina. Masturbation fixes the mind in the wrong direction which later on develops into a habit which results in compulsive masturbation for self satisfaction. Masturbation should be avoided as much as possible. It should strictly not be practiced till the end of adolescence. Early age of marriage is justified so as to prevent him/her to vent the sexual force in the wrong direction. A simple and regular life style, noble thinking, physical exercise, avoiding constipation, not reading cheap passionate literature, washing of glans penis to remove deposition of smegma while bathing, wearing light and loose undergarments, healthy environment and sex education. Auto-sexuality can be treated by strong will power and firm determination of the self. In most cases, a person stops masturbating after marriage. Refractory cases of auto-sexuality can be treated by counseling in which transferring of sexual arousal from inappropriate imaginary object to an appropriate real object as in sexual intercourse is done. Such erotic imaginations lead to masturbation, nocturnal emission, homosexuality and sadism. Reconditioning is done by deconditioning of abnormal behaviour and reinforcing of appropriate behaviour which cures the condition.
